THE Scottish Sun’s chief features writer, Matt Bendoris, has his running shoes on again – this time to compete in the Berlin Marathon.
A fortnight on Sunday, he’ll attempt to compete the 26.2 mile course around the German city.
He’ll be raising funds for Unique – the Rare Chromosome Disorder Support Group. It follows support he and his wife have received while caring for their young daughter who has a rare chromosome disorder that has left her with several chronic conditions, including a recent diagnoses of Crohn’s disease.
Matt told allmediascotland: “Unique have been of huge support to my wife Amanda and I during a tough year for our little girl, Brooke.
“The group has put us in touch with parents around the world, whose children suffer from the same rare condition.
“They have given us much needed help, encouragement and information that wasn’t available elsewhere.
“But despite all Brooke’s been through, she continues to be a wee battler – finally making it into Primary One last week.”
Matt has been kitted out for his marathon in Asics running gear by Glasgow sports retailer, Greaves Sports.
This is Bendoris’s fourh marathon in three years, the others being Edinburgh, Loch Ness and Amsterdam.
He added: “I’ve been overwhelmed by the support we’ve received through sponsorship from friends, family and colleagues. Greaves also kindly provided me with all the right gear and expert advice needed to try and beat my best marathon performance of 3hrs 36mins. Now it’s up to my old legs to do the rest.”
