BBC news services are expected to be disrupted, starting midnight, as the National Union of Journalists stage the second of two 24-hour strikes in quick succession over compulsory redundancies at the Corporation.
The first strike took place earlier this month, with the union highlighting the BBC declining to take part in talks about the planned job cuts – mainly at the BBC World Service and BBC Monitoring.
Says a NUJ statement: “[We remain] committed to negotiating a settlement to the dispute but the BBC remains unwilling to engage in finding reasonable resolutions for individuals who have been forced to leave and who face compulsory redundancy in the weeks to come.
“Last week, a NUJ member in BBC Monitoring was escorted out of the door and within hours there were three new jobs advertised he was qualified for. Three people have been forced out of the BBC to date, and more are due to leave in the next few weeks.”
A work-to-rule is set to kick in from Tuesday.
