A BBC Scotland newsreader has featured on a shortlist of ‘local heroes’ to be immortalised in statues.
According to today’s Scotsman newspaper, Jackie Bird – a regular presenter of Reporting Scotland’s evening news – could find herself sculpted into steel as part of a new community project, in which statues will be placed along a new walking and cycling route in Lanarkshire.
However, the 48 year-old has made a list of twelve renowned figures – including the likes of William Wallace and explorer David Livingstone – that will soon be whittled down to three.
Former Taggart actor, Mark McManus, is also among the nominees, which were selected by local community groups
Bird is quoted in today’s Scotsman as saying: “I am flattered to be even considered. I don’t think there’s a chance I’ll be included in the final three when you look at the illustrious former neighbours I’m up against.”
