The Sun newspaper’s website has reportedly been hacked.
Visitors to the red-top’s site were tonight faced with a fake headline and article claiming that News Corporation chairman, Rupert Murdoch, had been found dead in his garden.
Renowned hacking group, Lulz Security, has taken responsibility for the breach – by making an announcement on micro-blogging site, Twitter.
“We have owned Sun/News of the World – that story is simply phase 1 – expect the Lulz to flow in coming days,” according to a tweet posted on the group’s Twitter account where online Sun readers were later being redirected.
Access to The Sun's site now appears to be completely cut off to traffic.
The move comes ahead of Murdoch’s appearance before Westminster's culture select committee in the wake of the phone-hacking scandal that led to the closure of the News of the World.
The Scottish Sun initially appeared to have been unaffected, although allmediascotland has had difficulty in the last half hour accessing the Scottish edition online.
