Greenwood Leaving for New Comms Agency

The editor of scotsman.com is leaving to become a partner in a new communications practice.

Alan Greenwood is joining Stuart McGann, founder of McGann Media Associates, to launch McGann Greenwood Communications.

The Stirling-based firm will handle public affairs and PR contracts for a client list which already includes energy and recruitment companies.

Says a statement issued by McGann Media: “Greenwood has spent four years in charge of Scotsman Publication's digital output during which time he consolidated scotsman.com's position as Scotland's most popular newspaper website, serving more than two million visitors per month. He has overseen the launch of the first Scottish news iPhone app, established The Scotsman as the most followed Scottish newspaper on Twitter and has also served as deputy news editor of The Scotsman newspaper.”

He was previously editor of The Helensburgh Advertiser and multimedia editor of The Birmingham Post.

McGann is a former operations director of Clyde and Forth Press Ltd and business development director of Trinity Mirror Midlands, publishers of The Birmingham Post and Coventry Telegraph.

Greenwood is quoted, in the statement, as saying: “It’s been my privilege to edit scotsman.com and to work with some really talented journalists. However, the opportunity to forge a partnership with Stuart was too good to turn down.

“In a short period of time McGann Media has built an impressive client roster and proved there is scope for a fresh media venture to thrive despite uncertain economic conditions.”

McGann Media becomes McGann Greenwood Communications next Monday.
