Kenspeckle Aberdeen journalist, Ted Kidd, has finally called it a day after a scoop-strewn career spanning more than 55 years.
But before he took his bow, he picked up a cheque for £2000 for the charity arm of the National Union of Journalists – NUJ Extra – in his role as welfare officer for Grampian branch. Life member Ted was presented with the cash – raised at the Grampian Media Ball – by Katrina Dunbar, co-convenor of Grampian PR Group.
Ted – who has handed over the welfare role to Aberdeen photographer, Kate Sutherland – signed off by organising a Race Night which raised more than £900 for NUJ Extra.
The popular veteran scribe spent the majority of his career with the Daily Record and Sunday Mail covering all the major stories across the North of Scotland and latterly worked as a freelance covering local authority meetings.
Among his career highlights, it is understood he is the only journalist to have covered the 180 day-long inquiry into the Piper Alpha oil rig disaster, in 1988 in the North Sea, which claimed 167 lives.
