It's a bit of visual gag, but hey … Imagine the excitement of local hacks when they received a media release titled, 'Local MP Greets Obama in Westminster', with a picture captioned: 'Pictured (l-r): US President Barak Obama, David Mundell MP'.
And sure, not a word of a lie was uttered, including a quote from the MP – who represents Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale & Tweeddale – saying: “It was an honour to attend such a historic occasion and a particular honour to be able to shake the president by the hand and congratulate him on his speech.”
But the moment was certainly not an intimate tete-a-tete, as the pic was to reveal: Obama, with his back to the photographer, appearing to shake hands with Mundell, standing among a pretty large group of onlookers.
