A screenwriter whose career began as a trainee journalist at the Lennox Herald in Dunbartonshire is to have his latest film, 'The Caller', given its European premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival next month.
Sergio Casci left his job as a journalist with BBC Scotland, ten years ago, to become a full-time screenwriter. He has also worked as a reporter at The Herald. His credits include the film, American Cousins; TV soap, River City; and TV drama, Sea of Souls.
He said: “Since then I’ve written three feature films and several TV dramas, as well as writing regularly for River City. ‘The Caller’ is based on a short film I wrote called ‘Rose’ which was broadcast by the BBC in 1998.
“I subsequently developed the story, turning it into a feature-length script which was filmed in Puerto Rico in December two years ago – with Rachelle Lefevre and Stephen Moyer playing the leads. I was able to go over to Puerto Rico for a week during filming, which was a fantastic experience.
“I’m currently working on a number of projects, including a movie adaptation of my wife, Helen FitzGerald’s novel, ‘The Devil’s Staircase’, and a feature film set in the Middle East.”
