The editor of the Evening Times newspaper has been honoured by Glasgow City Council for services to the media.
At a ceremony held over a week ago, Tony Carlin was among those to receive a Lord Provost award, with his daughter, Frances, understood to have collected it on his behalf, as he was unable to attend the awards ceremony himself.
Reports the Evening Times, Lord Provost Bob Winter praised Carlin for the paper's introduction of community websites and its Community Champions award scheme. It adds: “He also singled out high-profile Evening Times campaigns including Ripped Off Glasgow, which challenges Glasgow’s unfair treatment compared to Edinburgh; the Glas-goals fitness drive; and the campaign against the deportation of Precious Mhango.”
Carlin is quoted in the paper, saying: “This is a wonderful honour and one for which I’m deeply grateful. It has been an enormous privilege to be part of the life of Glasgow in my 20 years at the Evening Times.
“I’ve been fortunate to enjoy the support of my family throughout that time along with one of the best journalistic teams in the country. This award is as much for all of them as it is for me.”
