Media stories are sparse this morning as news of the budget dominates the papers. The Scottish Daily Mail (page 41) is reporting that BBC presenters, who have been banned from making appearances at corporate events, where they can be paid in the region of £5000-£15,000 per evening, have found a way around the ban – by simply advertising themselves as ‘TV presenters,’ rather than BBC stars. The row continued recently after revelations that Andrew Marr was receiving up to £600,000 per year.
Armchair football fans unable to make the trip to London to watch Scotland’s glamour friendly with Brazil, on Sunday, will now be able to watch the game live on STV, after the station agreed a deal to show the game. The Daily Record (page 60) is reporting that former Rangers and Scotland boss, Alex McLeish will provide studio analysis whilst ex-Scotland striker, Kevin Gallacher, will provide commentary, along with Derek Rae.
The Daily Record is also running with the story (page 64) that Scotland has landed a £50 million TV deal courtesy of European football governing body, UEFA. Expected to run for four year from 2014, the deal will be extended if Scotland successfully qualify for the 2014 World Cup and 2016 European Championships. However, Scotland’s football governing body, the SFA, will still be able to hammer out their own TV deals for friendly matches.
