Broadcast journalist and businessperson, Charles Fletcher, has been appointed acting chair of a campaigning group comprising Scotland's network of not-for-profit, community radio stations.
Fletcher – who used to head his own community radio station project, South Queensferry's Jubilee1, until it was forced to close last year due to a lack of funding – was appointed yesterday at a meeting of the Scottish Community Broadcasting Network.
The SCBN is moving towards being formally constituted and aims to develop the role of the community radio network as a key force in Scottish broadcasting.
Says Fletcher: “Each station is individual in operation, makeup and service, reflecting and serving their community. As a single network, we have a major relevance in broadcasting across Scotland with our communities at the core.”
Fletcher said the Network will continue to work closely with the Highlands and Islands Community Broadcasting Federation, which he describes as “a template for all that is good in local radio”.
