Recently-appointed Culture Secretary, Jeremy Hunt – who only the other day raised the prospect of a reduction in the TV licence fee – is to be quizzed at this year's Edinburgh International Television Festival.
Hunt is the latest big name to be added to the roster of the three-day event, taking place at the end of August, sponsored by MediaGuardian and celebrating this year its 35th birthday.
Also just announced are Sandy Climan, chief executive of 3ality Digital, and acclaimed filmmaker, Shane Meadows – arguably best known for This is England.
Hunt will be involved in a face-to-face conversation on stage with writer, broadcaster and media consultant, Steve Hewlett.
Climan is to deliver the festival's Futureview Address, talking about 3D movies and TV.
Meadows’ new, four-part drama, This is England ’86 launches, on Channel 4 in September the festival is to exclusively screen the first episode, in partnership with Edinburgh Filmhouse. After the screening, Meadows and producer Mark Herbert will be interviewed on stage by Channel 4’s recently-appointed chief executive, David Abraham. This will be Abraham’s only appearance at this year’s festival.
