A FORMER head of news and current affairs at BBC Scotland and, more recently, chair of the Scottish Broadcasting Commission, has been awarded an OBE in today’s Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
Blair Jenkins was six years as head of news and current affairs before resigning over budget cutbacks. He is also a former director of broadcasting at Scottish Television, now STV.
Jenkins first joined the BBC as a news trainee in 1980 after beginning his journalistic career with Aberdeen’s Evening Express newspaper.
He worked on the Nine O’Clock News and produced Reporting Scotland before joining Scottish Television in 1986. He was also chair of Bafta Scotland for five years.
Also receiving an OBE is journalist and conservationist Julian Pettifer, while MBE awards go to BBC Radio 5 Live’s chief soccer correspondent, Mike Ingham, and children’s programmes and sports TV presenter, Fred Dineage.
