SCOTS foreign reporter and Sunday Times Africa correspondent, Dan McDougall, has been nominated for two of international journalism’s top prizes in the space of a few days.
McDougall has been shortlisted in the Amnesty International Awards for Human Rights Reporting for a second year running.
His nomination this year is for an undercover investigation carried out in Zimbabwe’s military-controlled Chiadzwa diamond fields where there is said to exist a shoot-on-sight policy on foreigners.
The Paisley-born writer has also been shortlisted for The 2010 Martha Gellhorn Prize for Outstanding Journalism for a series of reportage magazine features including an investigation exposing environmental damage inflicted on the impoverished African nation of Lesotho by suppliers to well-known clothes labels.
McDougall, who is currently based in Cape Town, is a former journalist with The Scotsman and the Daily Record.
Also nominated in the Amnesty Awards is The Herald’s Lucy Adams – for the nations and regions prize.
