A TV series inviting viewers to choose Scotland’s ‘best’ football team culminates on Thursday with the results of the poll.
‘Scotland’s greatest team’, on STV, has invited viewers to go online to pick a team – in a 4-4-2 formation – from shortlists offered over the last few weeks by various presenters, including comedian, Sanjeev Kohli, and TV presenter, Lorraine Kelly.
The shortlists comprise attackers, midfielders, defenders, goalkeepers and managers since the mid-1960s. They were determined by a panel of experts chaired by now former chief executive of the Scottish Football Association, Gordon Smith, and including The Scottish Sun’s Iain King.
The result will be revealed by the show’s main presenter, Tony Roper, from 9pm.
Says Brendan O’Hara, series producer: “It’s long been said that we are a nation of frustrated football managers. Well this proves it. The response we’ve had has been fantastic. It seems to have captured the imagination of the Scottish public with thousands of fans going online to vote for their greatest team. I’m sure we’ll get lots of feedback on the final eleven – there are a few surprises in there and I think it’ll spark quite a bit of debate, but it’s definitely an absolutely cracking team.”
