THE next generation of Scottish radio talent gets an unique opportunity to meet some of the biggest names in the industry at an introduction event being staged in Glasgow next week.
Around 100 students from colleges and universities across Scotland are expected to attend ‘Foot in the Door’, which is being organised by the Radio Academy, with broadcaster, Jim Gellatly, as host.
Some 30 ‘key players’ in Scottish radio will be on hand to answer audience questions, including Galaxy Scotland breakfast host, Des Clarke, Radio Clyde’s programme director, Paul Saunders, and Rock Radio’s, Ciaran O’Toole.
In other sessions during the full-day event, online broadcasting and community radio will be explored plus advice on pitching and how best to sell oneselff to the industry.
The Radio Academy keynote lecture will be delivered by GMG Radio’s Jay Crawford, chair of the Scottish branch of the Radio Academy.
Says organiser, John Collins: “Until ‘Foot in the Door’, the biggest single hurdle facing newcomers was getting access to the key people in the industry. ‘Foot in the Door’ includes almost every key individual in the Scottish radio industry and students will leave with contacts that will be very important in taking their next steps.”
Foot in the Door is run by the Creative Loop and Glasgow Metropolitan College in association with The Radio Academy.
