TWO Scotland-based journalists have passed exams entitling them to ‘senior reporter’ status on newspapers.
Following the latest batch of exams run by the National Council for the Training of Journalists, 106 candidates, UK-wide, were awarded the NCTJ National Certificate Examination (NCE) for Reporters.
The NCE is sat by working journalists who have been with a newspaper for at least 18 months. The entry qualification into newspapers is the NCTJ Preliminary Certificate in Newspaper Journalism.
The NCE evolved from what was many years ago called the NCTJ Proficiency Test – or ‘Prof Test’ for short – which many Scots journalists, such as the BBC’s Sally Magnusson and Brian Taylor, sat and passed in their younger days.
And this current batch of successful NCE candidates include Lauren Campbell (at the Ardrossan & Saltcoats Herald) and Samantha Chetwynd (at The Press and Journal).
