PLANS by the Daily Record to launch an evening edition are expected to be met with what will be widely viewed as price retaliation from its soon-to-be-rival, the Evening Times.
It is understood that, from Monday, the third (and last) edition of the Glasgow evening paper will be priced at just 15p, down 20p from its current price.
The Record’s decision to go for an evening paper is being interpreted within the industry as a response to the Scottish Sun dropping its price to 10p, so that it now tops the Scottish daily newspaper sales list. As yet, no launch date has been announced.
Added together, the sales of the Record, along with its evening edition – especially if it had a cover price of, say, 15p also – would likely make for an attractive proposition to advertisers.
The editor of the Evening Times, Donald Martin, was unavailable for comment.
