MOURNERS at a funeral in Edinburgh on Friday may have been slightly perplexed at a muffled yelp of excitement a few minutes before the beginning of proceedings: the person responsible had just won a prize in an on-air radio competition.
The competition was being hosted by Radio Forth’s Grant Stott. Up for grabs were three mobile telephones: one for the main winner, the others for two friends.
The competition involves randomly selecting a possible main winner and have them track down one of their two friends to contact Stott with the correct answer to a quiz question – all within five minutes.
On Friday, both the main winner and one of her nominated friends were at the capital’s Seafield Crematorium and it was the friend who blurted the muffled, “Yeah”, when she was told she had won.
Whispered the main winner to well-known Hibs fan, Stott: “He [the deceased] was a very good Hibee, he would be very proud [of you phoning].”
