PAUL Holleran, the Scottish Organiser of the National Union of Journalists, is staring at a margin of defeat similar to Germany’s humbling of San Marino during football’s European Championship qualifying matches last week.
But a 0-13 scoreline when it comes to taking staff grievances, these last 12 months, to the publishers of the Sunday Herald, Herald and Evening Times is more a source of growing resentment among the workforce than one of embarrassment for the trade union.
Might that be why the publisher’s Tim Blott was spotted stepping out of a taxi, with the Sunday Herald editor, Richard Walker, outside a restaurant yesterday? Not to celebrate any beating back of the grievances, but to find ways of re-establishing amicable relations with staff?
