A FORMER deputy sports editor at the Sunday Herald is to begin working as a reporter in Brussels, for international news agency, AFP.
Roddy Thomson also worked as a football writer for the Scottish Daily Mail and the fluent French speaker is expected to be based in Brussels – with his family – for four years.
He left the Sunday Herald three years ago, whereupon he ‘embedded’ himself with the Trinidad & Tobago team during football’s World Cup in Germany.
He also became a regular freelance contributor to French sports daily, L’Equipe, and France Football magazine.
He has been working as a desk editor for AFP, in Paris, for over a year. In Brussels, he will be one of three English-language writers, covering EU politics, economics and NATO defence issues.
He starts on the first of next month.
