THE news editor at the Edinburgh Evening News and a former colleague have just returned from their honeymoon, in Australia – the build-up to their marriage having included a proposal in the New York Post.
Alan Young and Joanna Vallely – who used to be a features writer at the Evening News – were married in the bride’s home town of Armagh, Northern Ireland, on June 20.
The couple got engaged in New York on Valentine’s Day last year when Alan put an advert in the New York Post asking for Joanna’s hand.
And true to form, he surprised the bride on the wedding morning with another advert, this time in the Irish News.
Alan has been news editor at the Edinburgh Evening News since September two years ago, while Joanna now works for production company, Mactv, making documentaries for BBC ALBA.
