INDEPENDENT television production companies in Scotland specialising in comedy now have a BBC network commissioning editor on their ‘own doorstep’.
Alan Tyler – currently head of comedy and entertainment, BBC Scotland – has been appointed to the new role of executive editor, Entertainment Commissioning, and will be working with indies in Scotland, and also Northern Ireland, with a view to UK-wide broadcasts.
He is the second Glasgow-based commissioning editor to have been appointed as part of a BBC plan to increase the profile of Scotland, and output from it, at an UK level.
Jo Street has already been appointed as Daytime commissioning executive.
Tyler will report to the controller of entertainment commissioning, Mark Linsey, and to the heads of programmes in Scotland and Northern Ireland, Donalda MacKinnon and Ailsa Orr, respectively.
