ARGUABLY, the biggest cheer at the Glasgow Press Ball on Saturday night was for the personal assistant to The Herald editor, Margaret Morrison.
Margaret, who currently works for Donald Martin, as she had for Charles McGhee before him, is one of the driving forces behind the ball, which is run by the Glasgow and West of Scotland branch of the Journalists’ Charity. If not the driving force.
And she and her husband, Brian, used the occasion to celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary.
So, when it was revealed that Brian was one of the winners of a raffle prize, you can imagine the enthusiastic response among the 300-plus guests. “That’ll be on allmediascotland.com,” quipped MC, Archie Mackay, who had previously name-checked the site when the table including Glasgow Lord Provost, Bob Winter, successfully bid, in the prize auction, for a pair of top tickets to see Phantom of the Opera, in London.
Brian had won two return flights to Palma, courtesy of flyglobespan.
Mackay – who runs media consultancy, media2k – and The Herald’s Janette Harkess are also on the ball’s organising committee. The branch is chaired by Scottish Sun editor, David Dinsmore.
