THE Scottish edition of The Sunday Times is to bear a fifth of planned redundancies at the newspaper, UK-wide.
Yesterday, four members of staff at the Glasgow-based title were told they were to be part of job cuts announced by publishers, News International, last week.
As far as The Sunday Times was concerned, editor, John Witherow, told staff that around 20 out 280 posts were likely to be going – as part of an efficiency drive and “making the most of newer technologies”.
For The Sunday Times Scotland – which has around two dozen staff – that meant yesterday business editor, John Penman, deputy sports editor, Andrew Baillie, news reporter, Kathleen Nutt, and Ecosse writer, Richard Wilson, all being informed they were no longer required.
