SCOTLAND on Sunday newspaper enjoyed a sales boost of almost 5,000 copies, at the weekend, thanks to the publication of a supplement celebrating a sponsored walk, in Edinburgh, in support of a breast cancer charity.
And some 3,000 of the people who took part in the MoonWalk during the early hours of Sunday morning were able – at the finish line – to purchase a special edition of the paper, complete with pink masthead. Newsagent sales made up the remainder of the circulation increase.
As it was, every edition – whether a special, pink one or not – of Sunday’s paper contained a 12-page MoonWalk supplement.
The promotion is similar to that undertaken by sister title, the Edinburgh Evening News, which enjoyed a sales boost of 7,000, courtesy of its extensive coverage, last month, of the Edinburgh Marathon.
