YESTERDAY saw journalism students at the centre of not one but two award ceremonies held in Scotland.
At the Write Stuff awards – now in its 11th year – Aleksandra Stevanovic, a student at the Glasgow-based Scottish Centre for Journalism Studies, was named ‘Scottish student journalist of the year’.
Meanwhile, topping the list at The Herald Scottish Student Press Awards was Chris Watt, a co-editor on the Glasgow University Guardian newspaper.
Stevanovic had three entries shortlisted: an interview with Tony Parsons; a story about round-the-word cyclist, Mark Beaumont; and another about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender parents.
Watt was winner of the ‘Best news writer’ category and commended in the ‘Best features writer’ one. His paper, the Glasgow University Guardian, was also chosen as ‘Best newspaper’.
