THE No.3 at The Scotsman has been appointed the new editor of the Shetland Times.
Paul Riddell is “going home” to where he was brought up, to edit a paper that enjoys a remarkable circulation of 11,000 among a population of 22,000 – in other words, more than one copy of the paper in every household.
He succeeds Jonathan Lee, who has been appointed editor of the Cumbria-based North-West Evening Mail.
Riddell, 36, has been senior assistant editor (No.3) of The Scotsman for the past three-and-a-half years.
During his 14-year career in national newspapers, he has also worked in senior roles for the Daily Mail in London and the Mail on Sunday in Glasgow.
He says he is looking forward to settling back in Shetland with his wife and their young son..
He said: “It will be an honour and a privilege to edit such a distinguished newspaper.
“I’m excited at the prospect of coming home and being able to give something back to the community where I was brought up.”
He takes up the editorship in May.
