A SHORT film, funded by Scottish Screen, was among the winners at last night’s British Academy film awards.
Dog Altogether, starring Scots actor, Peter Mullen, took the best short title at the BAFTAs.
It follows victory in the same category at the British Independent Film Awards last year. It is the debut film of writer/director, Paddy Considine. It tells the story of Joseph (played by Mullen) who is “suffocated by life and his environment” but finds solace in the simple kindness shown by a charity shop worker, Anita (played by Olivia Coleman).
It is co-produced by Anna Duffield of Sigma Films and Diarmid Scrimshaw of Warp Films.
Meanwhile, a Yorkshire Screen part-funded feature, This is England, took the Best British Film title, with the main prize, of Best Film, going to Atonement. Its leading male, Scot, James McAvoy, lost out of Daniel Day-Lewis in the Best Male Actor category.
Edinburgh International Film Festival patron, Tilda Swinton, took the Best Supporting Actress title, for her part in Michael Clayton.
Sir Anthony Hopkins was conferred a Lifetime Achievement award.
