FOR the third, successive month, the sales gap between Scotland’s two best-selling daily newspapers has narrowed.
From the latest ‘ABCs’, consisting of the average net circulation figures for December, the gap between The Scottish Sun and the Daily Record had narrowed to 26,330. In November, it was 36,744, while, for October, it was 37,591.
The December ABCs reveal an average net circulation of 389,659 (down from an average 403,326 in November) for The Scottish Sun and 363,329 for the Daily Record (compared to 366,582 the previous month).
Meanwhile, the Sunday Mail continues to be the biggest-selling newspaper in Scotland, and its average was slightly up, from 460,009 in November to 460,051 last month. Its average for October was 466,073.
Average Net Circulation figures include free give-aways.
Said Mark Hollinshead, managing director of the Scottish Daily Record and Sunday Mail Ltd said: “The Daily Record has closed the gap on the 20p Sun for the third consecutive month.
“Readers who pay full price for their newspapers are more loyal and responsive to advertisers than promiscuous readers who are attracted by price discounting.”
