THEY say that great minds think alike, which will have been the consolation yesterday for Susan Flockhart and Clare Trodden – the editors respectively of the Sunday Herald’s colour magazine and Scotland on Sunday’s Spectrum magazine.
Both titles happened to devote their front covers to pictures of East Kilbride-born TV journalist, Kirsty Young, against charcoal grey backdrops, and both had four-page spreads inside, majoring heavily on the same image of Young against a grimy industrial backdrop.
The coverage marks Kirsty taking over, later this month, from Fiona Bruce as host of BBC TV’s Crimewatch programme.
The sundayheraldmagazine credited both striking images to the BBC.
Full marks to the writers, Aidan Smith (SoS) and Vicky Allan, for extensive pieces which were rarely repetitive.
It’s all great PR for Young, 39, who launched her career as a continuity announcer on BBC Radio Scotland in 1989, and made her name as a presenter on stv’s Scotland Today news programme, before joining Five’s news team in 1997 to be its news anchor, on and off for a decade.
Two years ago, she became only the fourth presenter of Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs in more than half a century.
