GLASGOW-based PR man, Mike Ritchie, got a nice surprise yesterday when The Guardian contacted him to say he was one of three to win their critics’ top ten CDs of the year.
Said Ritchie, who runs of Mike Ritchie Media: “I love the end of year music critics’ lists in all papers and magazines and when The Guardian asked readers to submit their Album, Song, Band, and Solo Artist of the Year, plus one artiste most likely to disappear, I did so for fun.”
Ritchie contributes concert reviews to a couple of music websites.
He added: “I’ve got a couple from the list already, but I’m pleased, very pleased to boost my collection in this way.”
Mike’s favourite album of the year is ‘Pretty World’, by Sam Baker. His song of the year, is ‘Ordinary People’, by Neil Young (from Chrome Dreams II).
His band of the year and solo artist of the year are The Hold Steady and Mary Gauthier, respectively.
