AN annual festival devoted to celebrating Italian film is this year to run a spin-off retrospective dedicated to Italian actresses, including Sofia Loren.
This year’s Italian Film Festival – co-directed by Scottish film critics, Richard Mowe and Allan Hunter – is taking place between November 17 and December 2. It is the 14th year of the festival.
But between September 27 and November 29 – exclusively at the Glasgow Film Theatre, Edinburgh Filmhouse and Riverside Studios, London – it will be possible to celebrate the leading ladies of Italian cinema.
Say the festival organisers: “The Signore & Signore season encompasses the verbal fireworks of Anna Magnani, the childlike innocence of Giulietta Masina, and the sensual beauty of Claudia Cardinale and Sophia Loren. Many legendary Italian directors – such as Federico Fellini, Michelangelo Antonioni, and Luchino Visconti – worked with these women as their muses, creating some of their greatest films around their leading ladies.”
Other featured actresses include Lucia Bos.
