IF the BBC is seeking to chastise itself further – in the wake of recent editorial difficulties – it might like to consider this tiny blip in any commitment it might have towards rigorous fact-checking.
Appearing on its website was a story about the difficulties facing women in Scotland when they try to get equal treatment in terms of jobs, pay and status.
Of course, there may have been a time when all trade union officials were men. But not nowadays at UNISON, whose Glyn Hawker was quoted by the BBC.
Except that the BBC was initially reporting him as a man – before quickly correcting the error. Phew.
