RADIO broadcaster, Tom Morton, is to return to writing.
The former Scotsman and Shetland Times columnist, who, two years ago, publicly abandoned print journalism for writing a blog and his BBC Radio Scotland afternoon show, is to do a magazine column.
The blog is being dropped and the return to writing has been approached gently – courtesy of a small, monthly column for Shetland Life magazine, which has been on the go since Christmas.
But he is returning in earnest to print journalism as whisky correspondent for The Scots Magazine, the world’s oldest periodical and the largest-circulation Scots interest publication.
Says Tom: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be working for The Scots Magazine, along with the likes of Jim Crumley and Rennie McCowen. We’re living through one of the most exciting periods in the whisky industry’s history, and it’s great to have the opportunity of writing about the cratur again.”
Meanwhile, a special signed, limited edition of Tom’s 1982 whisky-and-motorcycle travelogue, Spirit of Adventure: A Journey Beyond the Whisky Trails, is being published in August by North Atlantic Media Ltd.
The original book was made into a TV series which is soon to be streamed online by stv’s internet arm, scotlandontv.tv.
