THE British Academy of Film and Television Arts in Scotland, BAFTA Scotland, has today announced the nominations for the British Academy Scotland Awards in 2019, honouring the very best talent in film, games and television produced in Scotland over the last year.
The awards, including those for Outstanding Contribution, will be presented at this year’s prestigious ceremony, hosted by Edith Bowman, on Sunday 3 November at the DoubleTree by Hilton Glasgow Central.
Red carpet coverage will begin at 17.00 and the ceremony will be livestreamed from 19.00 on Facebook. A special awards highlights programme will be broadcast on BBC Scotland at 22.00, which will also be available on iPlayer.
Television drama, The Cry, and feature film, Wild Rose, lead the way with three nominations each, followed by comedy-drama Stan & Ollie, the coming-of-age feature Beats, drama The Victim, and documentary Real Kashmir F.C., which have all received two nominations.
This year’s Actor Film category sees last year’s winner, Jack Lowden, receiving a nomination for his role in Mary Queen of Scots alongside Peter Mullan (The Vanishing) and Lorn Macdonald (Beats).
Actress Film sees Jessie Buckley (Wild Rose), Shirley Henderson (Stan & Ollie) and Florence Pugh (Outlaw King) competing for the award.
Actor Television will be contested by Richard Madden (Bodyguard), Alex Ferns (Chernobyl) and Ncuti Gatwa (Sex Education) while Morven Christie (The Bay), Jenna Coleman (The Cry) and Kelly Macdonald (The Victim) vie for the Actress Television award.
Competing for Writer Film/Television are Jacquelin Perske (The Cry), Kirstie Swain (Pure) and Nicole Taylor (Wild Rose), with Wild Rose, Freedom Fields and Only You all shortlisted in the Feature Film category.
This year’s Television Scripted category sees The Cry, Two Doors Down and The Victim all nominated, and Getting Hitched: Asian Style, Murder Case and Rogue to Wrestler all nominated in Features & Factual Series.
Greg Clark (Real Kashmir F.C.), Louise Lockwood (imagine… Hockney, the Queen and the Royal Peculiar) and Matt Pinder (Murder Case) are shortlisted for Director Factual and Jon S. Baird (Stan & Ollie), Johnny Kenton (Endeavour) and Brian Welsh (Beats) are nominated for Director Fiction.
Fashion’s Dirty Secrets, The Flu That Killed 50 Million and Yes/No: Inside the Indy Ref will compete in the Specialist Factual category, while The Bank That Almost Broke Britain, In Sight of Home – The Iolaire and Real Kashmir F.C. battle it out in the Single Documentary category.
Competing in the Short Film category are Jealous Alan, Red Hill and That Joke Isn’t Funny Anymore. The Entertainment category features The Dog Ate My Homework, Hogmanay Live and Last Commanders.
This year’s Animation nominees are 4:3, The Fabric of You and Love, Death & Robots – Helping Hand.
Bloons Adventure Time TD, Observation and Socketeer will compete in Game.
