THE managing director of an international sales and distribution company has been named the top Scottish marketer.
Huw Pennell received his accolade at the Scottish Marketing Excellence Awards in Glasgow on Friday night, on what was to prove a good night not only for his company, Maxxium UK Ltd, but others such as The Leith Agency and charteredbrands.
Maxxium UK Ltd is a joint venture, formed eight years ago and involving Highland Distillers, Remy Cointreau and Jim Beam. Pennell began his career as a graduate trainee at the Milk Marketing Board.
Drawn from biggest branch of the UK-wide Marketing Society outside of London, the evening was attended by over 400 guests. Remarkably, it was only the third year of the awards.
Some 140 entries were chasing 23 award categories, with one launched this year as a tribute to the late Alan Frame, one of the best-known names on the Scottish marketing scene.
The awards were run in association with the University of Strathclyde Business School.
