HISTORY was in the airwaves this morning, as the first-ever radio broadcast from the new BBC Scotland headquarters was transmitted.
The broadcast, made by presenter Tony Currie at 1am, marked the end of a day when 100 radio staff settled into their towering new offices, overlooking the River Clyde, at Pacific Quay, in Glasgow.
The remaining 1,320 staff will move in a phased approach before the doors are finally bolted shut at their former home on Queen Margaret Drive in August.
“It’s amazing to be the first staff here,” said Sharon Mair, Radio Scotland’s editor for business change and independent productions.
“The building will be fantastic for us. Yes, there’s the new technology, but there’s also the broadcast space itself. It opens up a huge number of possibilities for us.”
