WITH fears growing for the safety of BBC correspondent, Alan Johnston – abducted in Gaza a month ago – BBC staff were out in force yesterday, expressing their solidarity with their colleaguue, at a series of rallies held throughout the Corporation.
BBC Scotland controller, Ken MacQuarrie, and head of programmes, Donalda Mackinnon, addressed 125 staff between them at two locations in Glasgow: Queen Margaret Drive and Pacific Quay.
Thirty staff gathered in Aberdeen, 30 in Edinburgh, 20 in Inverness, 18 in Stornoway and four in Shetland. A rally of two even took place in Orkney.
They were among more than a 1,000 staff gathering in support of Johnston at BBC centres throughout the UK.
