INTERNATIONAL efforts to persuade captors to free a BBC correspondent extended to Glasgow yesterday, with the unveiling, in the city’s George Square, of a giant poster.
Yesterday, broadcasters the BBC, Sky, al-Jazeera, and CNN, issued a joint statement urging the release of Gaza correspondent, Alan Johnston. The BBC director-general, Mark Thompson, was in Palestine, to make his own direct appeal.
There have been rallies in both the UK and in the Middle East – including by Palestinian journalists – also calling for Scot, Johnston, to be released. He was captured a month ago.
