SCOTLAND-based film director and cinematographer, Steve Johnson, has just had his latest movie, ‘Convergence’, nominated for ‘Best Feature’, as well as four other categories, in a prestigious British film festival.
The 97-minute feature film stars mainly Scottish talent and was filmed in a variety of locations in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aviemore.
Billed as a psychological thriller, the film explores a twisted relationship between the lead characters and explores whether we are in control of our own destiny. It leads the British Independent Film Festival with five individual nominations: Best Feature Film; Best Actor; Best Supporting Actress; Best Supporting Actor and Best Cinematography.
Leading the cast is Jeremy Theobald (who had roles in Hollywood director, Christopher Nolan’s debut feature film, ‘Following’, and ‘Batman Begins’) as Martin, who plays opposite Nicolette McKeown (‘Mass Effect: Isolation’, ‘MetalHedz’ and television series, ‘Feel The Dead’) as Lily, in her first feature film.
The leads are supported by: Royal Conservatoire graduate, Alfie Wellcoat (‘Dual/Duel’ and ‘Haevn or Hele’), as Robert; Lee Fanning (‘Under The Skin’ and ‘The Angels’ Share’) as Dominic; Scottish American based actress Anna Kennedy (‘My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding’) as Maggie and Marcus Macleod (‘The Necromancer’ and ‘Book of Blood’) playing the enigmatic ‘Strategist’.
Liverpool-born Steve said: “This is a huge recognition for low-budget filmmaking at the highest level. Being nominated for ‘Best Feature Film’, as well as the four other categories’ in the British Independent Film Festival is a coup for the cast and crew who worked tirelessly for over six weeks of filming in 2018 and countless hours of composing and editing.
“To have the world premiere of the movie at London’s Cineworld, Leicester Square, is a dream come true. My thanks to everyone involved.”
‘Convergence’ marks Steve’s second feature film as a director, producer and writer and first feature film as a cinematographer.
Steve’s first full-length Scottish film, ‘The Students of Springfield Street’, won ‘Best Feature Film’ at the 2015 Aberdeen Film Festival and ‘Best Cinematography’ and ‘Best Actress’ at the 2016 Thistle International Film Festival.
Convergence is playing at the British Independent Film Festival on 11 May 2019 in the Cineworld at London’s Leicester Square. The awards ceremony follows the final category screening later that evening.
