FORMER Scotsman editor, John McGurk, has stepped down as managing editor of the Telegraph Group, just six months after moving south to re-join the Barclays, former owners of the Scotsman titles and now owners of the Telegraph empire.
“Cultural differences” have been cited as the reason for his brief tenure in the role.
McGurk’s chief task upon arrival at the Telegraph was to oversee cost savings across its Daily and Sunday titles, a plan which was widely opposed by staff and union. More recently, a proposal to radically trim the papers’ foreign desk is understood to have also come under fire.
It is thought he may be given another role within the Telegraph.
