NETWORK news programmes on BBC, such as the One O’Clock News, are expected to be disrupted soon, following a 95 per cent vote in favour of strike action by members of the broadcasting union, BECTU.
Union members working in BBC Television News will be meeting on Monday to decide when the first strike will take place. It is likely to be a 12-hour stoppage followed by further stoppages of different lengths.
Also likely to be affected will be the Six O’Clock News, plus the 10 O’Clock programme and News 24.
Says BECTU, the cause of the dispute is the BBC’s “insistence” on changing well-established rotas, plus “tearing-up all local agreements”.
