READ Peter Preston in yesterday’s Observer newspaper, trying to marry the seemingly at odds trends: the SNP’s growing popularity, the English press losing interest in Scottish stories, but the Scottish editions of the English press making headway at the expense of indigenous titles. It’s an interesting read.
And in a similar vein, read Steven Vass’s piece in yesterday’s Sunday Herald, speculating that publishers, News International, is considering investing in a bigger Times operation in Scotland – which would certainly pose a threat to The Herald and The Scotsman, were it to happen.
What does it all mean? For nostalgia, there’s BBC Scotland’s six-part history of the Scottish press – Deadline – starting tomorrow evening, at 10.35pm.
For the future, there’s the Forum, on this site. Maybe we should start seriously talking.
