SOME will say it’s an omen, others will happily accept it as a simple production cock-up – there but for the game of God…
Just two days after launching, the Glasgow evening edition of the Daily Record was victim to having its pages in a twist, including with copy intended for its Edinburgh edition.
There was the page four and five spread comprising a stand-alone page four and the right-hand of a double spread on page five. And on pages 16 and 17, the left-hand page and the right-hand pages seemed to be from two different spreads.
But rival, The Scottish Sun, was not entirely free of production grelims either yesterday: while the editorial on page 15 was about a 13 year-old attacked by machete-wielding thugs (and there’s a pic of the back of the boy’s head, with stitches and cropped hair), the accompanying advert was for a, er, chainsaw (the ad actually called it an electric hedge trimmer).
P.S. Tomorrow sees the publication of the latest batch of monthly newspaper circulation figures, with the August average sales figure for The Scottish Sun expected to be 14,000 ahead of the Daily Record’s. See Monday’s Spike for the full Scottish listing.
P.P.S. If a production cock-up wasn’t bad enough for the Glasgow PM, how about its coverage of the Tartan Army in Lithuania? Apparently, they were going “ballistic in the Balkans”. The poor souls must have got on to the wrong plane, the Baltics being their intended destination.
