GLASWEGIANS have been challenged to ‘get a grip’ this January by competing in the inaugural Glasgow Hang Challenge.
The competition – launched this week by Scottish start-up, Voomfit, an online portal for fitness and well-being – will see a bar set-up in 14 locations across the city.
Throughout the next two weeks, people across Glasgow and the west will compete to find out who can hang from a bar for the longest time – with the winner receiving £2,500.
A pair of Glasgow 2014 stars, Colin Gregor and Charlene Joiner, were among the first to get involved.
The athletic duo now run P.H.I.T., a high-intensity fitness class based at The Sanctuary in the West End.
Colin believes Voomfit’s initiative will continue the good work of the Commonwealth Games and encourage more people to get fit and healthy.
The former Scotland sevens captain said: “Often, there’s a barrier for people attending fitness classes or a new gym, it’s a step into the unknown for many.
“Hopefully, this challenge can take away the fear factor and get even more people down to their local studio or fitness centre to see what they have to offer.
“It’s great to see so many small businesses working together on this initiative and getting behind it. We’re all on the same team, working hard to improve fitness and wellbeing across Glasgow.”
Commonwealth Games silver medal cyclist, Charlene, added: “Whether it’s HIIT training, CrossFit, yoga or watersports, there really is something for everyone when it comes to fitness in Glasgow.
“There are so many passionate instructors offering fun, unique and, in many cases, life-changing sessions across the city that we can all count ourselves very lucky.
“Colin and I are quite competitive so we’ll no doubt have a few shots before the challenge is up!”
The challenge kicks off on Wednesday, when Titan Fitness Glasgow South plays host to the Glasgow-wide event.
Throughout the course of the month, well-known fitness destinations such as CrossFit Glasgow, Glasgow Club Bellahouston and Pinkston Watersports will welcome competitors vying to be the city’s most resilient grip guru.
The hang challenge is an initiative by Voomfit, an online platform for health, fitness and well-being designed to bring community and convenience together to businesses and customers alike.
