THE BBC Scotland soap, River City, has been named a winner at an awards ceremony recognising the best portrayals of mental health in the media.
The Glasgow-based soap beat off stiff competition from fellow BBC shows, EastEnders and Pobol y Cwm, to take the ‘soaps and continual series’ category in the Mind Media Awards 2016 – run by the mental health charity, Mind.
Says a media release, announcing the awards: “The show was praised for its portrayal of teenager Drew McLean’s struggles with his mental health, particularly its sensitive handling of his self-harming.”
