WELCOME to Media Movers, tracking the promotions, appointments, retirements, etc across the Scots media scene.
FIRST up, changes at the Daily Record and Sunday Mail newspapers…
A staff restructuring – based on further editorial integration between the two titles – sees Murray Foote named editor-in-chief (nationals) and Brendan McGinty deputy editor, with Murray having the additional title of editor, Daily Record, and Brendan the additional title of editor, the Sunday Mail.
The restructuring also sees Kenny Barr named editor-in-chief (regionals); publishers, Media Scotland, operating a network of local newspapers throughout Scotland, such as the Airdrie & Coatbridge Advertiser.
Barr succeeds John Murdoch, who is retiring at the end of the year.
But the restructuring has also earmarked approximately 15 editorial posts at the Daily Record and Sunday Mail, plus seven among Media Scotland’s regional titles, at risk of redundancy.

AND at The Sunday Post, Stephen Martin – formerly group head of content at the Daily Record, Sunday Mail and Media Scotland – has been named as its new deputy editor.
Stuart Findlay, who was previously news and content editor of the Inverness Courier and Highland News, has also joined the newspaper as an Inverness-based news and features reporter.
In addition, political editor, Andrew Picken, has been made politics and investigations editor, while Rachel Wearmouth – from Newcastle’s Chronicle and Journal – takes on the role of politics and investigations reporter.

FOLLOWING Magnus Graham’s recent move to the Scotland Office, as chief media officer, Tom Gordon is now political editor at The Herald. His previous role – political editor at sister title, the Sunday Herald – is now taken by Andrew Whitaker.

AND finally, congratulations to Alan Muir: he has been formally appointed editor of The Scottish Sun, having previously been acting editor.
He first joined the paper as a casual reporter in 1987. Since then, he has worked as a sub-editor, investigative reporter, news editor and deputy editor.
