VIRIDOR – one of the UK’s leading recycling, resources and renewable energy companies – attended Coatbridge High School Careers Fair, to engage with its pupils and parents about the future of the green economy and opportunities available to them as Viridor invests £500 million in Scotland’s next generation recycling and resource management infrastructure.
Viridor employs over 3,200 people that form part of the UK’s sustainable waste sector, in various roles from renewable energy professionals, recycling and resource managers, to environmental, engineering, technical, finance, contract management, sales and customer service colleagues.
The company operates from 12 sites in Scotland and is part of a UK network of over 300 resource centres.
In addition to its £100m advanced network of Scottish recycling facilities, the business has invested £357m in Scotland in the last 24 months.
Career entry points including placements, year in industry partnerships, apprenticeships and graduate fast-track programmes are available forming part of our vision for the future leaders of our organisation.
Former North Lanarkshire fast-track graduate, Katie Ferrie, was last year named Scottish Government ‘Young Recycler of the Year’ at the Scottish Resources Awards for her work with the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
Viridor, currently investment £500m in Scottish ‘next generation’ resource infrastructure, has a strong presence in Lanarkshire, offering real opportunities to the young people in the area.
In addition to Viridor’s Scottish regional office at Eurocentral, the firm operates what’s recognised as the UK’s most advanced glass recycling facility – at Newhouse, Lanarkshire – and Scotland’s most advanced materials recycling facility at Bargeddie.
Viridor is the zero waste partner for North and South Lanarkshire Councils, NHS Lanarkshire and over 3,000 Lanarkshire businesses and social enterprises.
Employing a 150 strong Lanarkshire workforce, 92 per cent of which are Lanarkshire residents, Viridor contributes £2.8m spend in the Lanarkshire economy each year.

* £300,000 flat-screen TV recycling line at its £23m E-Waste Recycling Hub, Perth; and
* £180,000 Dry mixed recycling upgrade at its £11m Materials Recycling Facility, Bargeddie.
- Viridor embodies the circular economy, managing over seven million tonnes of recyclates and resources each year, of which 2.4 million tonnes are recycled. With seven energy recovery facilities and four more under construction across the UK city-regions, Viridor currently produces enough energy to power over 330,000 homes.
- Viridor makes a substantial contribution to the green economy through investment in people and skills, employing over 3,200 people at 318 facilities.
