Notes to editors:

Cornhill Estate, with its original mansion house, was acquired in the1860s by Alexander Kay, a wealthy East India merchant, whose business was based on the River Clyde in Glasgow.

The new owner appointed renowned architect, William Leiper, to rebuild the house.

Leiper would go on to become one of Scotland’s most respected archtitects who later designed the famous Doges Palace on Glasgow Green.

For the Cornhill Estate, Leiper designed a French Renaissance Period Chateau, built entirely of light coloured freestone with rich carving on the exterior. In 1998, Cornhill House was transformed into a hotel. The main rooms of the house have beautiful views across the upper River Clyde and against the backdrop of TInto Hills.

In 2008, the Ballroom Suite was added – the new suite has a permanent stage and large conservatory and a wedding pavilion – the perfect location for weddings and special occasions.
